So have I finally gone over the edge and
created a strange new doctrine? No. I am merely using the Borg from the
TV show Star Trek as an example of what God does not want to do.
Years back, when I 1st became spirit filled,
a brother in the Lord was discussing with me the salvation of the soul.
He was saying that the soul needs to be destroyed. After a time, I went
back to him and asked him if he thought that when we are in heaven we would
be like the Borgs in Star Trek.
For those of you unfamiliar with the Borg
or Star Trek, let me give a brief description. Star Trek was a science
fiction TV show that started I think in the 60's, then in the mid to late
80's they came out with a new show called: Star Trek: The Next Generation.
In this new series they created a new enemy for the humans and the Star
Fleet Federation to fight. This was the Borg. The Borg were part humanoid
and part robot. They traveled in cube shaped space ships and conquered
planets. They would take the entire population and turn them into borgs
like themselves. A borg would lose his complete individuality and have
machines implanted into his body. A borg would practically be soulless,
and would have no personality, no likes or dislikes, and no individualness
at all. They operated like bees or ants and referred to themselves as a
collective or hive.
My friend understood my analogy and confirmed
my suspicion of his doctrine. He believed God wanted man stripped of his
soul and personality. This is not true and is a false conclusion of the
texts. Let's take a look at these.
Math 10: MKJV
39 He who finds his life shall lose
it. And he who loses his life for My sake shall find it.
Math 16: NKJV
25 For whoever desires to save his
life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.
26 For what profit is it to a man if
he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give
in exchange for his soul?
The word life in Math 16:25 & in Math
10:39 is "psuche" in the greek which better translates as soul, as
in verse Math 10:26. Look at this verse:
Luke 9: MKJV
23 And He said to all, If anyone desires
to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and
follow Me.
While the word "himself" is not the same
word "psuche". The same thought applies here, we must deny our soul.
So Jesus is saying IF a person denies
his soul it will be saved, preserved. Only if a person keeps his soul;
follows it, lives a selfish life, refuses discipline, and caters to his
own desires and wants; will the end thereof be destruction of the soul.
Lets read more:
Heb 10: NKJV
39 But we are not of those who draw
back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.
James 1:21 MKJV
Therefore putting aside all filthiness
and overflowing of evil, receive in meekness the implanted Word, which
is able to save your souls.
Thus God not only wants our souls saved
and preserved, He has provided a way to do so.
It is NOT God's desire to destroy
our souls, our personality, or even our personal tastes. But if we indulge
these and do not give them to God, we will lose them and we will lose our
soul like the borg:
Math 21: MKJV
44 And he who falls on this Stone shall
be broken, but on whomever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
There is the threat of losing our soul,
even if we are spiritually saved. I will not get into this here, but if
you wish to know more about how the soul is saved, and how this is different
from the salvation of our spirit go here:
The
Salvation of the Soul vs. the Salvation of the Spirit
Remember God does not wish or want the
destruction of our souls, just as he does not want anyone to be thrown
in the Lake of Fire:
2 Pet 3:9: The Lord is not slack concerning
his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward,
not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
I suppose, this error of Borg mentality
is because folks do not look at these verses properly or look at them with
a religious spirit. Religious spirits often push sacrifice, when God is
tired of religious sacrifice:
Isa:1:11: To what purpose is the multitude
of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt
offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the
blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.
Hosea:8:13: They sacrifice flesh for
the sacrifices of mine offerings, and eat it; but the LORD accepteth them
not; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall
return to Egypt.
Hosea:9:4: They shall not offer wine
offerings to the LORD, neither shall they be pleasing unto him: their sacrifices
shall be unto them as the bread of mourners; all that eat thereof shall
be polluted: for their bread for their soul shall not come into the house
of the LORD.
God has called us to worship Him in Spirit
and Truth, religious duty stinks to Him:
Jn:4:24: God is a Spirit: and they that
worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Isa:66:3: He that killeth an ox is as
if he slew a man; he that sacrificeth a lamb, as if he cut off a dog's
neck; he that offereth an oblation, as if he offered swine's blood; he
that burneth incense, as if he blessed an idol. Yea, they have chosen
their own ways, and their soul delighteth in their abominations.
Our lives must be a LIVING sacrifice, not
a death sacrifice:
Rom:12:1: I beseech you therefore, brethren,
by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice,
holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
We are freed by Christ, not put into slavery
of Law. Remember I am preaching denial here, and not gluttony. To save
the soul it must be denied. But we deny our souls, we do not deny things.
For example, alcohol should not be denied from our presence, but we can
be in the midst of alcohol and not partake. If we flee from alcohol and
the world how are we to be a light on a hill?
Math 5:
13: Ye are the salt of the earth: but
if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth
good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
14: Ye are the light of the world.
A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15: Neither do men light a candle,
and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto
all that are in the house.
16: Let your light so shine before
men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is
in heaven.
17: Think not that I am come to destroy
the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
I am not telling any former alcoholics
or young ladies to go run into a bar and start preaching. We are to live
by the Spirit, not by any list of do's or don't's. I strongly suggest reading
all of Romans 14 where you can learn we don't live by a list. Nor are we
to condemn those who have stronger faith and eat something we do not. But
the one who eats also should not cause the one who doesn't to sin. There
is a balance here. And the balance is not any list or guideline, except
to follow the Holy Spirit.
The soul may have fallen into sin, through
the fall of Adam and the fall of our spirit. But the soul was created by
God, not by sin. Therefore God gave us personalities and tastes. He gave
us individual gifts. God does not want to deny us fun and pleasure, He
wants our soul saved so we can enjoy these things rightly and in a Holy
manner.
Let me give you an example. Scripture often
tells us to give our brothers and sisters in the Lord a Holy kiss:
Rom:16:16: Salute one another with an
holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you.
1Cor:16:20: All the brethren greet you.
Greet ye one another with an holy kiss.
2Cor:13:12: Greet one another with an
holy kiss.
1Thes:5:26: Greet all the brethren with
an holy kiss.
But society has fallen so much that most
places in the world, especially the western world we cannot and do not
obey this. My wife is from an Eastern European nation, when I got married
there, her family gave lots of kisses to me. In America you don't see folks
kissing guys/grooms. And the habit of kissing the bride is in decline.
And I do not see my fellow christians kissing each other. This is because
our souls are not saved. We have inordinate affections.
The soul is saved progressively (please
read my page on this above at that link), and therefore God say's there
are degrees of salvation; 30, 60, 100 fold:
Mt:13:8: But other fell into good ground,
and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.
Mt:13:23: But he that received seed
into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it;
which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some
sixty, some thirty.
The seed is God's word, and it is through
receiving God's Word that the soul is saved.
James 1:21 MKJV
Therefore putting aside all filthiness
and overflowing of evil, receive in meekness the implanted Word, which
is able to save your souls.
Therefore there will be those in heaven
whose souls are saved 30, 60, or 100%. But there are also those who will
have 0% saved. They are carnal christians, and it is probably these who
will take part in the Hurt of the 2nd Death. Not the 2nd Death, but the
Hurt thereof. I describe this here:
Does
the Bible teach a purgatory for believers? - No it does not, but go
here for more info.
So will there be spiritual borgs in heaven?
I believe there will be. This is not God's will, this is the choice some
christians have made. Somewhere, I heard or read a testimony of someone
who went to heaven. They claimed there were beings there who were very
crystal like in nature, and seemed to be servants of the others in heaven.
If this is true, and I do not claim one way or the other, these could be
those who are spiritually saved, but did not save their soul at all. Thus
they arrive in heaven, without a "personality", or have their soul crushed
because they refused to fall on the Rock:
Math 21: MKJV
44 And he who falls on this Stone shall
be broken, but on whomever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
Could this be the type of saved person
referred to here:
Rev 15:2: And I saw as it were a
sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory
over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number
of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.
Two groups are mentioned, those who overcame
and the sea of glass mingled with fire. Those who overcame stand on this
sea. The Bible promises those who overcome will rule the nations. Who are
the nations? Is part of the nations this sea of people? I believe so. We
must be baptized with Fire, or else we will be salted with it:
Mark 9: MKJV
49 For every one shall be salted with
fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.
Remember Math 5 I quoted above spoke of
salt. And about those who lost their saltiness:
Math 5:
13: Ye are the salt of the earth: but
if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth
good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
So here is a direct interpretation of Rev
15:2 from Math 5:13.
I discuss more about ruling over these
people here:
The
Gospel of The Kingdom - Part 1
So, I plead with you, be salted, be filled
with the Holy Spirit, and have your soul saved. Not doing so, may cost
you your soul as well as missing the rapture.
